Resources

Adding a new resource to the site is divided into three steps. The first step involves adding a new resource to the Product Management page. This ensures all of the product info and files are added into the CMS. The second step includes creating a resource page to display all of the resource info on the site.  In the last step, you will add your resource to a list on a different content page to make it easier for users to navigate to the resource page you created. A good example of that would be the resource list on the Read to Feed page.

Select ‘Resource’ from the drop-down menu.

Primary Content

There are three steps to adding a new resource. The first step is adding the resource into the CMS, which is what you are doing now. The next steps are creating a resource page then adding that page link to a resource list. After a resource page has been created, you will come back to this section and use the content picker to add the resource page here.

For now, you will leave this section empty.

Resource File

Use the ‘Select Media’ button to insert your resource document here. Selecting that button will open the Image/File Manager window, where you will be able to search or upload your document.  It is important to keep the Image/File Manager organized. Currently, images and files are stored in the folder that matches their Content Directory navigation.

For example, the volunteer sign-up page has the URL /what-you-can-do/get-involved/volunteer/index.html. This means that all of the media for that page can be found by selecting the ‘whatyoucando’ folder in the Manager and opening the ‘volunteer’ folder.

PRODUCT IMAGES

Add an image of the resource here. For more information on how to fill out the image form and best practices, please visit this section.

PRODUCT CONFIGURATIONS

The checkboxes in this section determine different aspects of how the resource is displayed, downloaded or ordered on the site. For a new resource product, the only checkbox selected should be Is Sold Out.

what you can do folder

The column on the left-hand side displays the Content Directory, the navigation to all of the pages found on our site. Each page is located within a folder and, once a page is selected, content for that page will be displayed.

Use the directory to open the What You Can Do folder, open Schools, then Resources and select one of the resource pages. Selecting a page will take you to the Edit Content page and you will be able to copy the content from there.

Creating a New Resource Page

create content page

After selecting the Copy Icon on the Edit Content page, you will be directed to the Create Content page shown above. In the Parent Directory field, choose which folder your resource page should go in. The folder should be relevant to where your resource will be displayed. Using the Content Name and Navigation Text field, use your resource name to create a title for the new page.

After filling out the Create Content page, you will be directed to the Edit Content page.

Edit a New Page

Use the Lego Blocks to fill out the content that will go on the page. The settings here should mostly be kept the same to keep resource pages looking consistent, but the copy and images can be edited. Visit the Create Content page to learn more about Lego Blocks.

If your page has a WYSIWYG Lego Block on it, learn more about it in this section.

To learn how to fill out the Page Meta, Open Graph Information, Shared Content, Site Search and Donation Buttons on Mobile sections, visit the Create Content page.

Reminder: Return to the Product Management page and locate the resource you just added. Now that you have created a product page for your item, you can add your page to the Primary Content section using the content picker.

Including a Resource on a Page

list of resources on Read to Feed page

The final step is linking the resource page you created to a main page for users to find your content. A good example of this can be found on the Read to Feed page. This page has a list of resources where users can directly download the documents or navigate to the resource page to learn more.

resource list in the cms

A resource can be added using the Lego Block – Resource List in the CMS. Simply use the content picker to add the link to the resource page you created in the last step. The text and image shown beside your resource is determined by the content that you added to the Shared Content section of the resource page.
