The Image/File Manager in the CMS can be used to store and organize different forms of media on the site. This section will explain how to find or upload images and files, while also going over best practices for formatting files for the web.

After logging into the CMS, select the Image/File Manager icon in the first column to the left. In the picture above, this icon is highlighted in a green color. Selecting this icon opens the Image/File Manager pop up window.

This window allows you to quickly search or upload media on the site. It is important to keep the Image/File Manager organized. Currently, images and files are stored in the folder that matches their Content Directory navigation.
For example, the volunteer sign-up page has the URL /what-you-can-do/get-involved/volunteer/index.html. This means that all of the media for that page can be found by selecting the ‘whatyoucando’ folder in the Manager and opening the ‘volunteer’ folder.
To add an image or file to a specific page, you will need to locate the page using the Content Management section in the CMS. For more details, visit the Edit Content section.
Use this button to create folders to store and organize files.

Change how you view the structure of the Image/File Manager. Show items as icons or in a list.
Use the search bar to locate a file that already exists in the Image/File Manager.
In this column, you will only be able to select the ‘heifer-web-media’ folder.
To start uploading images and files, navigate to the folder you would like them to be in and select the upload button in the Image/File Manager pop up window. Only images and files with these extensions can be uploaded on the site: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .html, .htm, .txt, .docx, .doc, .zip, .pdf, .mp4, .webm, .ics and .svg.

From here you will drag and drop the files you wish to add to the system. Select upload when all of the files have been added.

After each bar reaches 100%, select the ‘close’ button to exit the upload window. You should now be able to see your file in the Image/File Manager
File Types
Save images in .jpg. jpeg, .png, or .gif only.
File Name
File names should accurately and succinctly describe the image. This helps others find the image later. This also aids in search engine optimization. It is another signal that can be used to define characteristics about an image.
Use letters, numbers, underscores and hyphens in file names. Do not use special characters or spaces. Example: woman-harvesting-grass.jpg
File Size
To increase page load speed, it is recommended that image files be less than 500kb.
Image Width
Images should be at least 1500px wide. Smaller images could appear blurry or pixelated.
Color Mode
Save images in RGB color mode, as CMYK won’t render in some browsers.
