Our Year in Photos

As we approach the close of 2022, we’re taking the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate another year of life-changing work — this one spanning 19 countries and 72 projects. Together with our partners, supporters and the farmers we work with every day, we’ve helped more than 895,000 families improve their lives during this period. Here’s how we did it, told through some of our favorite photos from the past year.

Nani Murmu welcomes her Heifer-supported self-help group to an awareness session in Odisha, India. Education is a pillar of Heifer’s work around the world, ensuring people have adequate training to boost their agricultural and business skills, improve their families’ health and work together to build successful, equitable communities.

Technology enables farmers across Heifer’s project sites to access training and information and strengthen their farms.

Joyce Adhiambo Omollo with her grandson at her poultry farm in Homa Bay County, Kenya. With support from Heifer and Cargill’s Hatching Hope Kenya program, Joyce turned subsistence farming into a thriving poultry business that provides food and income for her family. Ensuring people can grow the food they need to feed themselves and their communities remains at the heart of our mission.

A worker quality tests milk delivered by local farmers to a dairy collection point in Rwanda. Continued investments in infrastructure and equipment this year, such as vehicles, fodder machines, greenhouses and collection centers like this one, have enabled farmers to reach customers, participate in markets and earn more for their products.

Healthy Animals

Bed Prasad Poudel feeds fresh forage to his dairy cows in Kapilvastu, Nepal, where he and his wife Kamala own a dairy farm and started a fodder business with Heifer's support to supply nutritious livestock feed to the area’s farmers. Our work supporting smallholder farmers critically depends on ensuring they have the training and resources within their community to keep their animals healthy.

Jobs

A young worker helps a customer at an agrovet shop in Rwanda, where local farmers purchase medicine, animal feed and other supplies. Opportunities in agriculture aren’t limited to working the land, and expanding the sector has a ripple effect in rural communities, creating jobs in support functions like supply shops, equipment repair, processing and transportation.

Climate Resilience

Susan Akullu uses a traditional method to sort maize seeds from dirt and other residue in northern Uganda, where crop insurance has helped farmers like her recover after losing harvests to drought. Around the world, we work with farmers to better manage natural resources, adopt climate-smart agriculture and protect their livelihoods against increasingly unpredictable weather.
